Project Horizon Weekly · July 6–10 (Week 3)

The Horizon platform is now in the workflow, and the 2360 Kelton rough world model is converging around a simpler exterior direction.

This week the two sides of Horizon moved closer together. The platform from last week’s sneak peek is now integrated into our workflow, while the 2360 Kelton Avenue model is getting closer to a final rough world model that we can test against the budget.

The platform is now in the workflow

People can now upload 3D models to Horizon as versioned files. Instead of passing around a model with no clear history, we can keep each iteration in one place and see which version represents the current design intent.

Anyone opening a model can also leave view-dependent comments and take measurements that remain visible to everyone else. The comment is tied to the exact view of the model, so the next person sees the geometry and dimensions being discussed rather than trying to reconstruct the context from a message.

This is the basic collaboration loop we wanted: upload a model, preserve its versions, open it in the browser, and discuss specific parts of the design in context.

2360 Kelton

On the design side, we are making progress toward the final rough world model for Kelton. After evaluating the front-of-house options from last week, we decided to remove the porte cochère. We also changed the garage into a covered outdoor patio, which gives that part of the house a different use while simplifying the exterior direction.

The main remaining question is cost. The next step is to create a cost analysis of the rough exterior as it is currently modeled and see whether it fits the project budget. From there, we will edit the model in accordance with the numbers rather than letting the design harden first and pricing it afterward.

Item What it is Status
Platform collaboration loop Versioned uploads, browser viewing, measurements, and view-dependent comments done
Kelton rough world model Finalize the exterior geometry, massing, and major spatial decisions in progress
Kelton fine world model Add detailed design decisions such as cabinets, interior paint, and finishes next
Kelton exterior cost analysis Price the rough exterior represented in the current model in progress
Kelton budget revision Edit the world model based on the cost analysis next
